The Architectural Institute of Korea, the sole academic organization of architecture in Korea, has aimed at the advancement of architecture and the development of architectural innovations.
The institute was founded in 1945 by the pioneers of Korean architecture.

AIK has overcome various national calamities, such as the social disorder after independence and the chaos of civil war,
and has grown to take its place as an academic association owning and managing 1,300m2 of its own head office building.

In collaboration with other related associations, AIK strives to promote and introduce advanced knowledge and academic research
and to develop and popularize major innovative technology.

AIK has also contributed to improvements in education and national policy to meet the rapidly changing demands of today's society.
Approximately 10,000 registered members belong to AIK. They are of various occupations, such as architects, building engineers, researchers, professors, students,
and public officials, with additional library members and special members.

AIK is governed by committees and boards and consists of 8 local chapters.
The General Assembly are held once a year and 9 Board Meetings are held every year.
Academic conferences, symposia, seminars and lectures are held regularly, with publications of journals and proceedings.
To establish itself as a global academic organization, AIK has actively participated in international academic exchange.

AIK signed the recent architectural exchange agreements with the Architectural Institute of Japan (AIJ), the Architectural Society of China (ASC),
and the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ASCA) of the United States.

Currently, AIK is keeps a close relationship with government agencies and private companies, and strives for academic-political collaboration to maximize the applicability of academic research.

This is in response to the rapid changes in the modes of thinking, lifestyles, and international situations,
and to the demands for sustainable, informational, and hi-tech architecture.

AIK has acted as a leader among the various architecture-related organizations, and acknowledges its responsibility.
AIK will strive to be true to the arts and technology areas of architecture, and promises to continue its endeavor to prepare for the future.
